AAI-dublin deployment issue

Reshmasree

The aai-resources pod is trying to clone aai-config from http://gerrit.onap.org/r/aai/aai-config. But it's not able to clone which is stopping the resources pod from running.

Can someone help me fix this?
Thanks,
Reshma.

When you cloned oom did you use the -–recurse-submodules flag ?

git clone -b 4.0.0-ONAP http://gerrit.onap.org/r/oom --recurse-submodules

https://onap.readthedocs.io/en/dublin/submodules/oom.git/docs/oom_quickstart_guide.html

I have tried to deploy aai from the oom cloned with --recurse-submodules flag, still facing the same issue.
Is there any other solution?

Which version of ONAP are you using?

The aai-config repository has been retired for a couple of releases now i.e. it is marked as read-only, no contributions have done there since Feb 2018:
https://gerrit.onap.org/r/q/project:aai%252Faai-config

As I understand, that repo contained chef cookbooks but the chef tool is no longer in use for deployments.

In Dublin release, the aai-resource repo only has one reference to aai-config in the INFO.yaml, so it would appear that it currently does not use anything from aai-config.

Looking a bit deeper, I found

references to "git clone" calls in this shell script used in a container:
https://gerrit.onap.org/r/gitweb?p=aai/aai-service.git;a=blob;f=ajsc-aai/src/main/resources/docker/startup.sh;hb=HEAD#l82

cd /var/chef/

git clone -b ${docker_gitbranch} --single-branch ${docker_giturl}/aai-config.git && \
git clone -b ${docker_gitbranch} --single-branch ${docker_giturl}/aai-data.git

/init-chef.sh

however, aai-service repo and aai-data repo are also similarly retired and have not seen contributions for Dublin release.

An older version of aai-resources deployment.yaml also had references to the chef data of aai-config:
https://gerrit.onap.org/r/c/oom/+/30883/2/kubernetes/aai/templates/aai-resources-deployment.yaml

however, those files are now obsolete and that configuration does not appear in the latest aai/oom repository.

It's curious to be seeing errors related to aai-config, but I think it points to following out-of-date instructions.

The AAI team looked at this during https://wiki.onap.org/display/DW/2019-07-24+AAI+Meeting+Notes

Could you also do a describe on the pod with the error message?
We would like to see the parameters and configurations that are running in your environment.

When I deploy aai using nexus images it's running properly.

But when I deploy it with the locally built images the resources and traversal pods are trying to clone aai-config and not running.

I have cloned aai/schema-service, aai/graphadmin, aai/traversal, aai/resources code and built the images using 'mvn clean install'.Facing this issue with both master and dublin branch codes.

Hi Keong,

There was issue in deployment.yml of aai-resources and traversal. We changed the image(onap/aai-resources:latest) and repository(local registry) names in values.yml of corresponding charts. But the deployment is using common.repository. So the image that got deployed is nexus3.onap.org:10000/onap/aai-resources:latest which must be an amsterdam image.

We changed the deployment to take repository name from values.yml instead of common.repository.Now AAI is Running completely.

Each values.yml has an entry named 'repository' but all the deployment templates in oom uses common.repository. Is there any specific reason for that?

Thanks,
Reshma.

Thank you for explaining the local changes made to your environment.

I am glad you were able to fix the problem. I have not attempted to change the repository or image using the values.yaml file.
Can you inform us, what is your reason for changing the repository and image?

I guess you are talking about the common.repository parameter that was added in this commit:
https://gerrit.onap.org/r/c/oom/+/40711

It appears to be used consistently across all the deployment.yaml files. I guess that the intention is for all the images to come from the same repository, rather than mixing and matching repos for each individual component.

In oom/values.yaml I can see the global repository parameter as:

global: # global defaults
repository: nexus3.onap.org:10001

I guess that the repo contents available at port 10001 is different from port 10000

Keong

Reshmasree

Hi Keong,

I have made some changes, for testing those changes I had to deploy locally built images. So changed the repository to point our local registry and image name in values.yml.

If the intention is to use all images from same repository,it's not clear why individual component's values.yml has repository and image fields.

Regards,
Reshma.

Hi Reshma,

You may be right that individual overrides in values.yaml are unnecessary.

I think the generally accepted practise is to setup a Docker repository that acts as caching-proxy of nexus3, as per wiki:

https://wiki.onap.org/display/DW/ONAP+OOM+Beijing+-+Hosting+docker+images+locally

So then all of your images (locally created and the public release) are equally available through your proxy and you only need to update the global.repository in one place to make it all work.
